Forget about GERD…You May Have NERD

Some gastroenterologists are discovering that up to one half of their heartburn patients don't get complete relief from the strongest acid reducing medications. Why?

What is GERD? Gastroesophageal Reflux

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal (11/12/2012),some gastroenterologists are discovering that up to one half of their heartburn patients don’t get complete relief from even the strongest acid reducing medications, or (PPI’s) and most don’t have any evidence of acid erosion when doctors examine their esophagus with an endoscope.

Why is that?

Because up to 70% of GERD patients actually have something dubbed “functional heartburn” or NERD, a new diagnosis that stands for Non Erosive Reflux Disease. That means reflux is still happening but it’s not acid. In some cases it’s bile, a digestive liquid from the liver. This is contrary to what patients are told by their doctor: That GERD is caused by too much stomach acid.

Here at the Digestion Relief Center, we have found many NERD patient suffer because of one or more of the following conditions causing their upset:

1. Irritated stomach lining damaged by stress or/and medications and inadequate digestive enzyme production. Most often taking aspirin and acid reflux will occur together.

2. Food allergies or hypersensitivities that cause protracted digestive problems.

3. Mechanical or structural weakness with the diaphragm, which can lead to a Hiatal Hernia.

In our clinic, we know that when we get to the cause, we get to the cure. We have helped hundreds of patients in the Chico and Redding California to get relief from NERD by using a 3-part treatment approach that gets to the cause(s): We nourish and restore the protective mucosal stomach lining, we improve your digestion, and we stimulate nerve pathways that lead to the upper stomach and throat to reduce spasms and reflux.

So don’t be a Nerd about GERD. Call us at 530-899-8741  to find out how you can successfully overcome your heartburn today.
